Ms. Garfinkel
Fall ’07-‘08

Welcome to Algebra II! As your teacher, I am here to help you to do the best that you can and successfully pass this class. We must work together for this to happen. It is imperative that you stay on top of your work and attend school regularly. Please do not hesitate to speak with me as soon as any problems arise.

Main Topics in this course will include:
Linear Functions
Exponential Functions
Quadratic Functions

Please bring the following supplies to class EVERY DAY:
  • Pencils and Erasers
  • Three-ring binder with lined loose leaf paper
  • Calculator
  • Textbook
  • Homework

Course Requirements:

Attendance: Attendance in class is very important. If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to get the work and notes that you missed, either from me, from a classmate, or from my website, GarfinkelUDHS.wikispaces.com. The absence policy in this class follows the attendance policy outlined in the UDHS handbook. If you know that you will be missing class due to a field trip or other appointment, please let me know in advance so that I can give you the work that you will be missing.

Homework: Homework will be given every night and will be written on the board during each class. Each day the assignment will be checked and given a score of 0 - 4. A "0" will be given for an incomplete assignment. A "2" will be given for an assignment that is approximately half completed. A "4" will be given for a complete assignment. If you have difficulty with a particular problem, you must show an attempt at the problem, even if it is a few sentences describing your confusion. You will not receive credit for problems left blank. NOTE: Any student found copying or letting their work get copied on any assignment will be subject to a zero on that assignment and possible notification of the assistant principal.

Grades: Your grade will consist of homework, quizzes, tests, projects, the computer lab, and computer lab quizzes.

Math Help: If you feel that you need extra help, please feel free to ask. I will be available before school everyday at 7:00 am and after school most days until 3:30pm in room 312. If you would like to come in after school for help or to make up work, please arrange a time with me. There are math department help sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 3:30 in room 322.

Classroom Rules:

  1. Responsibility
You are responsible for your own learning, this includes, but is not limited to: coming to class on time and having the necessary supplies; writing down your homework and completing the assignments; studying for all tests and quizzes; and, most importantly, your behavior in my classroom and the ways in which you relate to classmates and to your teachers.
Discipline problems will be handled by the following chain of command: the classroom teacher, phone call(s) to parents/guardians, school counselors/centers.

  1. Respect
We are all here to learn. Please respect that students learn in different ways and at different paces. Rudeness and disrespect will not be tolerated. One way I ask that you show that respect is by raising your hand when you wish to speak.
